Acrylic paint is very useful, because with it, we can paint almost all surfaces without problems. But to do it in the best way, it is good to know the different types of acrylic paint. Next, Chicago-based naïve art painter David Berkowitz Chicago will share the different varieties of acrylic paint in order to know what to expect when using it.
Berkowitz points out that some of the types of acrylic paint are more popular than others, this is likely due to their versatility. If you have planned a craft with acrylic paints, learn to distinguish the different types, to know which one will best fulfill the function you are looking for.
Let's take a look at the types of acrylic paint.

Acrylic for undergraduates and artists

This type of acrylic paint is the easiest to find and also the cheapest. According to Berkowitz, it is very similar to the most expensive and highest quality acrylic paints with the only difference that the pigment is softer in this type of paint. The pigment in undergraduate paints is lower quality than more expensive paints, but it does the job almost as well as these.

Gouache

Gouache acrylic paint has several similarities to watercolors. On his Twitter profile, Berkowitz tweeted that the main difference is that this paint dries faster than watercolors and cannot be modified once it dries (as it can be done with watercolors adding a little water).
Another difference from watercolors with gouache acrylic paint is that the grain is larger in acrylics than in watercolors, as well as with greater color intensity.

Acrylic specialty paints

Acrylic specialty paints have a wide variety of properties that can be used primarily to achieve unique effects. "You will find this type of acrylic paint in different varieties, from low prices to higher quality paints with higher prices, in all craft houses," says Berkowitz.
Some of the paints of this type that you will find are: iridescent, light interference, with glitter and fluorescent paints.

Acrylics for crafts

The type of acrylic for crafts is a painting with which you will not achieve transparency or three-dimensional effects, but flat and opaque figures. Berkowitz recommends to use it on a vertical surface, such as a tripod or a wall, as it tends to spread and run. This type of acrylic is inexpensive and is the best type of acrylic for murals and decorative paintings.
